FLIER DETAILS GIRL SCOUTS CONNECTION TO ABORTION ADVOCACY
POSTED BY LIFE DYNAMICS ON JANUARY 14, 2015
A group, which seeks to educate the public about the connections the Girl Scouts have to abortion advocacy, has developed a flier which pro-lifers can hand to troops who solicit them for Girl Scout cookies.
MyGirlScoutCouncil.com states that their goal is to provide documentation of Girl Scout concerns that directly impact those seeking information, “Each statement uses Girl Scout documents to connect every member and council to the national (GSUSA) and international (WAGGGS) scouting organizations, and provides recent examples of why this is problematic for many pro-lifers,” they write on their website.
To better assist pro-lifers, the group has produced a fact sheet which can be passed out to inform the public why they may not be willing to purchase Girl Scout Cookies.
The group points out that a troop only keeps an average of 10 to 20 percent of the money the girl’s collect from selling cookies and that the local council receives an average of 65 to 75 percent of the money collected by all local troops.
According to MyGirlScoutCouncil.com, “Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) collects a royalty payment based upon their licensed trademark on every box of cookies produced.
With approximately 200 million boxes of cookies sold annually, this amounts to millions of dollars of funding for GSUSA every year.”
The 2015 cookie flyer, says in part, “Girl Scouts’ curriculum for girls, sold and promoted by every local Girl Scout council, recommends pro-abortion role models/organizations such as Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton, Amnesty Intl., Population Council, ACLU, and National Organization For Women.”
The flyer also points out that, “Girl Scout councils and GSUSA honor and promote abortion rights advocates and pro-abortion politicians including Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sebelius, Wendy Davis, and Elizabeth Warren among many others.
“In addition, GSUSA maintains memberships in additional abortion advocacy groups, including the Coalition for Adolescent Girls and Re:Gender. Other organizations working alongside GSUSA in these groups include abortion providers International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International, and numerous organizations that push for unrestricted abortion rights, such as the Feminist Majority Foundation and the National Women’s Law Center.”
The flier is a great tool for anyone seeking to educate others about the Girl Scouts. It can be downloaded by clicking here.
In the spring of 2014, the cast of Life Talk spoke with Steve Ertelt of Life News about the Girl Scouts long standing connection to Planned Parenthood.
You can watch that show here:
In February of 2014, Life News published examples of how the Girl Scouts collaborate with Planned Parenthood.
“In a national survey,” founder Steven Ertelt writes, “seventeen Girl Scouts councils admit to partnering with Planned Parenthood; many other councils refuse to answer the survey question. Of the 315 Girl Scout councils in the U.S., 17 councils reported having a relationship with Planned Parenthood and its affiliates, and 49 reported they do not. The other 249 refused to disclose any relationship.”
More from their article:
- In 2010-2011 Girls Scouts in New York partnered with Planned Parenthood for a sex-ed program, “Real Life. Real Talk.” The program website touts their partners (link has since been removed): “Real Life. Real Talk. is proud to count the following organizations, faith communities and companies as partners: …Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways.”
For fourteen years, the Girls Scouts in Waco, TX co-sponsored a sex ed conference with Planned Parenthood. “It’s Perfectly Normal” a book written by a Planned Parenthood executive was given to all children in attendance says abortion can be “a positive experience.” And in January 2012, Girl Scouts employee Renise Rodriguez wore a “Pray to End Abortion” t-shirt during off-duty visit to her Tucson Girl Scout office and was ordered to her to turn the shirt inside out or leave.
As LifeNews reported in 2012, the Girl Scouts joined with Planned Parenthood to head a UN conference and LifeNews reported on the investigation the Catholic Church is undertaking into the ties between the Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups.
Early last year, John Pisciotta, director of Pro-Life Waco, organized a boycott of the Girl Scouts. His CookieCottwebsite, which detailed the reasons for the boycott, has since received a ton of hits. In addition to the Waco effort,LifeNews and a coalition of pro-life organizations also announced that they planned to boycott sales of Girl Scout cookies. That coalition includes American Life League, the Pro-Life Action League, the Radiance Foundation, blogger Jill Stanek, the National Black Pro-Life Union, the Issues4Life Foundation, and Life Coalition International among others.
