Youth OUTright’s August programs

The summer’s almost over, but Youth OUTright still has great August programs that highlight fun.  And just in time for school, an advocacy program on August 31 will prepare youth for a meaningful school year.  Programs are held every Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in downtown Asheville.
Sunday 8/3
LGBT Community Center: A special guest from the Pride Center of the Bluegrass Community Center Task force will update us on what’s brewing for a Center in Asheville and ask us what we think.  Youth will have a chance to offer suggestions and opinions on what they think Asheville needs most.
Sunday 8/10
Drag Panel:  The cast of Kings and Queens will share their most fabulous stories of becoming and being Asheville’s own drag superstars!
Sunday 8/17
Lise Kloeppel and students from UNCA’s Queer Youth Theatre class will bring their craft and their creativity to YO.  Youth will have a chance to learn more about the project and experience what YO’s collaboration with the UNCA class may be like.
Sunday 8/24
Movie: Rocky Horror Picture Show
Sunday 8/31
Advocacy Project: Peggy Weill from WNCAP will come talk to YO about advocacy–what it is and how to do it well!  Youth will get to talk about what matters most to them and will learn how to create change.  This meeting will begin a multi-part project where youth will get to identify an issue, choose an approach, take action and witness the results.
Youth OUTright, WNC, Inc., a 501c-3, not-for-profit organization, offers discussion groups and social activities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, ages 14-23. Topics and activities are led by two trained facilitators. Youth OUTright’s mission is to empower LGBTQ youth to be confident and vital members of the greater community.  For additional information, please visit:  www.youthoutright.org
