Immigration Update: Dollar store employee accused of exposure to two-year old was already a registered sex offender

8/1/2014

Police say an Albuquerque sex offender was only out of jail a few months before he struck again, and they say he did it in the middle of a family store where he was working.
Carlos Aragon was convicted of sexually assaulting a young child in a bathroom thirteen years ago, though at the time he disputed the allegations. He served his time and was released on probation. He also joined the sex offender registry.
State representative Antonio “Moe” Maestas co-sponsored a bill to strengthen that registry.
“It's right there, it's right on the internet, all that information's there and there should be a map and things like that and so we want them to get jobs but not jobs where there's children at the worksite,” Maestas said.
Police say Dollar Tree hired Aragon, and that earlier this week Aragon exposed himself to a two-year-old girl. Police say it happened when the girl wandered into an aisle away from her mother. Dollar Tree had no comment about the incident, but confirmed they do background checks before hiring employees.
Police say Aragon denied exposing himself to the toddler.
