Immigration Fail #2,390,673: Detectives Believe Suspect In Fells Point Murder Is In Mexico

10/20/2014

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — There’s new information about the possible whereabouts of a man who police say murdered a Fells Point woman in her apartment.

As Gigi Barnett explains, the suspect hasn’t been seen in the state since, but detectives may have a good lead on where he is.

For weeks, Baltimore police have been on a hunt for 29-year-old Juan Morales. Earlier this month, detectives discovered the body of 40-year-old Claudia Parodi, stabbed to death in her Fells Point apartment. They believe Morales wielded the knife.
Since then, he’s been on the run, and the quiet neighborhood has been in disbelief.
“I’m very surprised. It’s terrible news. I hate to hear it,” said neighbor Emily Noord.
“It feels pretty safe most of the time,” said neighbor Evan Patrick. “All of the time I’ve been here.”
As flowers still grace Parodi’s sidewalk, police may be closer to finding Morales.
According to our media partners at The Baltimore Sun, federal court documents show that Morales, who also goes by Jose Lopez, is in Mexico–not San Antonio–where police originally thought he fled after allegedly stabbing Parodi to death.
Police say Morales lived with Parodi at her apartment at the time of her death.
Another reason why detectives believe Morales is in Mexico: according to court documents, investigators wrote that he is “…of Mexican nationality and that is his ultimate destination.”
According to our media partners at The Baltimore Sun, federal prosecutors are also charging Morales with “unlawful flight” in an attempt to avoid facing a judge.
Detectives say anyone with information on this case should call police.
