Biden To Overthrow Venezuelan Government, Become President

U.S.: Maduro’s Accusations of Biden “Unfounded and False”

WASHINGTON – The United States on Monday called Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s accusations of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden “unfounded and false” after the Venezuelan leader said Biden was behind a plan to topple his government.

“We’ve see the press reports about the accusations against the United States by officials of the Venezuelan government. Such an accusation is unfounded and false,” a State Department spokesperson told Efe.

“Such accusations divert attention from Venezuela’s own actions by blaming the United States or other members of the international community for what is occurring inside Venezuela,” said the spokesperson.

Maduro said that Biden announced to presidents and prime ministers of Caribbean countries during an energy summit held in Washington last week that a plan is already under way to depose him.

“The imperial power of the North has entered a dangerous phase of desperation and they have gone on to speak to governments of the hemisphere to announce the overthrow of my government. I accuse U.S. Vice President Joe Biden of having personally talked with presidents and prime ministers” about the alleged plan, Maduro said at a rally Sunday.

According to the same State Department source, “The Venezuelan government should focus on the legitimate complaints of its people, which include repeated violations of the freedoms of expression and assembly, as well as due process under the law.”

U.S.-Venezuelan relations have been strained since 1999, when now-deceased President Hugo Chavez, Maduro’s mentor and predecessor, came to power.

Neither country has had an ambassador in the other’s capital for the past four years.
