HARRISBURG – York County Rep. Ron Miller is reaffirming his request that the state House move his legislation which would do away with exemptions from Pennsylvania’s Crimes Code that permit certain types of harassment in labor disputes. House Bill 1154 was passed by the House Judiciary Committee last October on a predominately party line vote. Miller said the recent investigation and indictment of leaders of Ironworkers Local 401 in Philadelphia by federal prosecutors exemplifies the need for his legislation. Last week, FBI agents arrested 10 members of Ironworkers Local 401, including longtime leader Joseph Dougherty, in a racketeering conspiracy case. House Bill 1154 would remove the exemptions that currently permit harassment, stalking, and threatening use of a weapon of mass destruction in labor disputes as defined in the Labor Anti-Injunction Act. Miler added that union members can be the targets of harassment by opposition.
