BAMAKO – At least seven people were injured, several of them seriously, in an attack Sunday night by a suicide bomber on the headquarters of the United Nations Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
The bomber, loaded with explosives, approached guards at the entrance to the camp, located in the city of Tabankort in northeastern Mali, MINUSMA sources told Efe on Monday.
He detonated the explosives near a group of soldiers from Bangladesh who were securing the barracks, they added.
No group immediately claimed responsibility and the attacker’s identity and motivation were not clear.
The Malian government and UN peacekeepers have been accused of passivity with regard to clashes among groups of Tuaregs fighting to gain control of the northeast of the country, where both jihadist organizations and pro-independence groups have been active.
