Failed Border Policy: UPDATE

03/17/2014

Chase ends with 7 illegal aliens in custody

Border patrol agents currently have seven immigrants present in the U.S. illegally in custody after a chase in Hidalgo County.
The chase happened at Linn-San Manuel, about 25 miles north of Edinburg.
Hidalgo County Constable Precinct 4 Eddie Guerra's office told Action 4 that Thursday night they were working Operation Storm Garden.
Operation Storm Garden is a task force aimed at patrolling high smuggling areas.
We are told constable deputies tried to stop a suspicious white pickup truck that had a broken tail light, north of Highway 281 around 10pm, but the driver refused to stop.
The driver then led authorities on a high speed chase.
It finally ended on FM 1017 about a mile west of 281, when he drove through a fence.
According to deputies they called on U.S. Border Patrol to assist, as they tried to make their way to the truck.
The truck was found empty with only a few bundles of marijuana and blankets.
They detained five people from El Salvador, including a 10-year-old child.
Minutes later, they also found two Mexican nationals running away from the scene.
Authorities told us all seven were turned over to border patrol.
