A teen is behind bars charged with sexual abuse of a young child, police confirm.
Ivan Jesus Roquis was arrested by Brownsville police earlier this week.
The 17-year-old is accused of sexual abuse of a 9-year-old.
The alleged sexual abuse happened over a four-year period, according to the Brownsville Police Department.
If a suspect is 17 or older, they are an adult subject to the adult justice system.
Continuous sexual abuse of a young child is a first degree felony, according to the Texas Penal Code.
Even though the alleged sexual abuse started four years ago, there is no statute of limitations for the charge.
If convicted of the charge, Roquis faces anywhere from 5 to 99 years behind bars.
Roquis appeared before a judge who set his bond at $200,000 on Friday, Dec. 19.
Action 4 News does not identify victims of sexual abuse.
