Former Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño will serve out his sentence in the same federal prison as former 404th State District Court Judge Abel Limas.
U.S. Bureau of Prison (BOP) officials confirmed that Treviño reported to the Pensacola Federal Prison Camp in Florida on Tuesday.
Treviño will spend the next five years in prison after pleading guilty to a federal money laundering charge.
Forbes Magazine once ranked the Penscaola Federal Prison Camp as No. 2 out of "America's 10 Cushiest Prisons."
According to a the magazine, inmates get to visit with their families in a tree-filled park on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Forbes reported that the prison camp is located on an outlying base of the Pensacola Naval Air Station allowing inmates enjoy better jobs and recreational activities than those at other federal prisons.
The magazine reported that one high-profile white collar crime inmate got an air-conditioned office job on the base and got to see movies at a theater for servicemen.
Former 404th State District Court Judge Abel Limas is serving a six-year sentence at the same prison for his role in the Cameron County "Cash For Court Favors" scandal.
Treviño's son Jonathan Treviño is serving a 17-year sentence at a federal prison in Loretto, Pennsylvania for his role in the Panama Unit corruption scandal.
