Anchor Babies In The News: Four arrested in robbery spree

8/5/2014

NEAR ALAMO — Deputies arrested four people late Friday after they were involved in at least four separate aggravated robberies earlier that day, Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said Monday.
Luis Amador, 27, Juan Alfaro, 31, Ariana Ruiz, 18, and Maria Cavazos, 18, have all been charged with one count of aggravated robbery and are each being held on $750,000 bond, officials said.
The sheriff’s office responded to a report of shots fired around midnight Friday on the 500 block of East Sioux Road, Guerra said.
While deputies were interviewing the victim in the robbery, they noticed that a dark-colored SUV matching the description of the suspect vehicle was parked at a nearby residence, he said.
Guerra said deputies then made contact with the passengers in the SUV, who appeared intoxicated and fit descriptions in three previous aggravated robberies.
One of those robberies occurred 20 minutes earlier near the 100 block of Sharp Road, the sheriff said.
In that robbery, a dark-colored SUV ran a vehicle off the road. The suspects approached the victim’s vehicle, demanded money and hit the driver over the head with a pistol. The suspects fled with $200 cash, a cell phone and a pair of earrings, Guerra said.
A passerby who witnessed the struggle tried to intervene and the suspects fired at his vehicle, he said.
At 9:30 p.m., a SUV ran another vehicle off the road near Sioux Road and demanded money from the victims. It was unclear if anything was stolen.
At 3 a.m., near a nightclub on Souix Road, the suspects robbed a couple in their vehicle, stealing an undisclosed amount of cash and a purse, Guerra said.
Later, the sheriff’s office executed a search warrant on the SUV and a home associated with one of the suspects, where deputies were able to recover some of the items taken from victims.
“We expect to charge them with at least four counts of deadly conduct because they did shoot at passing vehicles,” Guerra said of the alleged robbers.
Investigators are still determining whether the four suspects are tied to a specific gang.
