A GPS-equipped bottle of prescription drugs helped Albuquerque police track down one suspect in a robbery at a pharmacy on Sunday.
An employee at the CVS on Montano Northwest told officers that two men handed her a note demanding Oxycontin pills just after the store opened. They did not display a weapon, but the woman said one of the suspects had his hands in his pockets.
She informed police that she had placed a GPS-equipped bottle into the set she provided the suspects.
Detectives then tracked the device to a vehicle in the area of Walter and Bell Northwest. They observed a man throw the bottle out of the passenger window.
As authorities pursued the vehicle, a male suspect, later identified as Roy Christopher, got out of the vehicle and attempted to run on foot across I-25.
Christopher was apprehended without incident. Police said he admitted to passing the note to the pharmacist and taking the pills. According to court documents, he attempted to get rid of the bottle when he found the tracking device.
He was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on charges of conspiracy to commit a third degree felony and tampering with evidence.
